With Canon’s 1.6x crop factor, the 18-50mm creates an 28.8-80mm zoom range (full-frame equivalent), and the lens boasts a constant wide f/2.8 aperture throughout, ensuring this is a truly versatile workhorse zoom for EOS R creators.
Along with the generous zoom range is a versatile close focusing distance of 12.1cm at the wide end and 30cm at the zoom end, with a maximum of 1:2.8 magnification. This adds the versatility to capture dynamic close-up shots and macro-type images, alongside portraits, landscapes, street photography, travel, and a huge variety of other subjects. The bright aperture makes it easier to handhold in low light too, and creates a shallow depth of field with impressive subject separation.
The extending lens design is incredibly compact, weighing in at 300g and measuring just 74.5mm in length (before zooming). This complements bodies like the compact Canon EOS R7, providing a lightweight and versatile pairing that you can leave on your camera all day.
Sigma has adjusted the autofocus for the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Lens for Canon RF, which is exceptionally fast and quiet thanks to the stepping motor. Large f/2.8 aperture and superb image quality
The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary spans a zoom range of 28.8mm to 80mm in full-frame format, and has a wide aperture f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. This makes it easier to achieve blurry backgrounds, which can enhance portraits, close-ups and other subject-driven genres. Bokeh rendered by the 7-bladed diaphragm is also smooth and attractive, without distracting from the subject.
The lens’s three high-precision glass-moulded aspherical elements yield high optical quality without needing to make the lens excessively heavy, and the use of in-camera aberration correction (where available) reduces optical imperfections such as distortion and vignetting.
This is made possible by the latest optical design technology at Sigma’s production facility in Aizu, where all Sigma lenses are manufactured.
Exceptionally compact and lightweight
The 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary for Canon is particularly compact, matching the portability of APS-C mirrorless camera bodies including the EOS R100, R50, and R10. This makes it a perfect lens for everyday general use. It is also the smallest and lightest zoom in its class, boasting dimensions of 69.2mm × 74.5mm with a 300g weight, despite the bright aperture and high optical quality.
Sigma constructed the lens from carefully selected materials in order to reduce the weight, including Thermally Stable Composite (TSC), which was used for the barrel. This is used across many Sigma lenses thanks to being robust, and because of a thermal conductivity close to that of aluminium. This similarity ensures stable performance and good operation when used in changing temperatures. By deliberately using metal for some of the internal structure, the parts could be much thinner and have a higher rigidity, ensuring the lens can stand up to frequent, heavy use.
Supports various shooting situations
The lens features fast and near-silent autofocus, making it suitable for various applications such as quiet event photography, video recording, and capturing fast-moving subjects. This is achieved through the use of a stepping motor as the AF actuator.
Its compact and lightweight design allows for flexible use in handheld shooting, shooting from a gimbal or stabiliser, solo video recording and vlogging.

- Any available item will be sent Next Day and you'll receive your dispatch email for this.

- Should the item no longer be available to ship, we'll send you an email to advise what we have been able to send and what we haven't. You won't be charged for any item that we haven't shipped and we'll also refund your postage.
We've tried to make as much stock as possible available for Next Day delivery. The exceptions for this would be:

You can choose to get your orders delivered to an address other than your billing address. Just enter this address during the checkout process. We are unable to change the address once the order has been placed.
All orders being delivered within the UK require a signature upon delivery. Please ensure you enter the delivery address where someone will be present to sign for the delivery.
Orders shipped to United Kingdom will not charged by any duties. Orders shipped to certain countries will have Duty and Customs charges added to them at the point of entry to the delivery country.
