This compact-style camera is a step up from a disposable or instant camera, offering the ability to become more absorbed into the process of making images through a simple-to-use interface. It includes a fixed 25mm prime lens, which is equivalent to 37mm in 35mm format, and the design stands out for its silver colour with a magnesium top cover.

An exposure compensation dial is available for instant exposure changes and a dial with seven shooting modes allows the photographer to select the most appropriate settings for the subject at hand. Pentax has designed the film camera with a high level of attention to detail, and it includes a tactile manual winding mechanism with a smooth and pleasant sound, reminiscent of classic SLR cameras.

Film is captured in a vertical format to match a smartphone screen, and the Pentax 17 takes two vertical shots in one frame. Once you’ve captured images you can either use a film scanner with the processed film to digitise it, print it at home with a photo printer, or send the film to a lab to print as standard prints (or in different sizes). Whichever method you choose, the joy of having physical prints is available throughout the process.

The Pentax 17 captures two 17mm x 24mm images within a single 35mm frame (36mm x 24mm) using a horizontal film advance mechanism. Positioned normally, it captures vertical-format images, akin to those taken by smartphones.

Manual Film Camera Operation

Featuring a manual film winding mechanism inspired by Pentax SLRs, the Pentax 17 offers the tactile pleasure of film winding and a satisfying wind-up sound. It includes an easy-loading system to prevent errors, a manual film rewind crank, an exposure compensation dial, and an ISO sensitivity dial for an authentic film photography experience.

New Fixed-Focal Lens

The camera includes a newly developed 25mm F3.5 fixed-focal lens (equivalent to 37mm in 35mm format) with HD coating for enhanced clarity and sharpness. This lens, redesigned from the Pentax Espio Mini optics, optimises performance in the half-size format, drawing inspiration from the RICOH Auto Half for everyday picture-taking.

Zone-Focus System

The Pentax 17’s zone-focus system divides focus into six zones, indicated by marks on the focusing ring. Users simply select the appropriate mark for their subject distance, with a Macro zone for close-ups from approximately 25 centimetres. The included hand strap aids in measuring subject distance accurately.

Bright Optical Viewfinder

The camera’s Albada-type bright frame finder includes a close-up compensation frame, allowing for real-time subject confirmation and easy composition of close-up shots.

Seven Shooting Modes

With automatic exposure adjustment based on lighting data, the Pentax 17 offers seven shooting modes, including Full Auto, Slow-speed sync for twilight photography, and Bulb mode for nightscapes and fireworks. An independent exposure compensation dial allows for quick exposure adjustments.

High-Quality Build

Boasting a classic design, the Pentax 17’s body features magnesium alloy top and bottom covers for optimal rigidity. The 40.5mm filter thread allows for various filter attachments, and meticulous attention to detail makes it a joy to own.

Should the item no longer be available to ship, we'll send you an email to advise what we have been able to send and what we haven't. You won't be charged for any item that we haven't shipped and we'll also refund your postage.
